Juan Vega, 77, of Erie passed away Tuesday, May 19 at 2:55 p.m. in the home of his daughter. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.
Born June 12, 1932, in Laferia, Texas, he was the son of Prospero and Demetria (Barron) Vega. He married Beneranda Esarza. Sadly, after 52 years of marriage, she passed away February 23, 1994.

Juan loved building things with his hands, listening to friends sing Karaoke and just being surrounded by his family and friends.

He impressively taught himself to play musical instruments. He enjoyed playing the guitar, key board, the accordion, the drums and the harmonica.

Juan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Erie.

He is a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War.

Juan will be missed by his family. He is survived by his children Wliud (Maria Elena) Elizondo of Holland, MI, Eliseo (Kim) Elizondo of Plant City, FL, Emilio (Maria Esther) Esparza of Toledo, Juanita Vega Belair of Monroe, Ester (William) Wynkoop of Toledo, Evangeline (Pablo I) Gomez of Toledo, Esteban (Leticia) Vega of Toledo, Ofelia Vega of Toledo, Maria Teresa Vega Gonzalez of Erie and Guadalupe (Juan) Aldana of Erie; he is also survived by a cousin San Juana Zarate of Holland, MI, 30 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, Juan was preceded in death by 2 sons Enrique Elizondo and Juan Jose Vega and a daughter Margarita Elizondo.

Friends may visit Thursday from 1:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Erie location of Bennett- Prochnow Funeral Home, 9156 Summit St. The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. He will lie instate Friday from 10:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Erie. Father Fred Kalaj, pastor of the church will officiate.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
