Martha Heinze was born on a farm south of Okeene where the Jacob Heinze family settled after immigrating to the U.S. from Russia in 1911. Martha and Bud married July 30, 1934 in St. John's Evangelical Church at Okeene. They used to host Heinze family happenings and "White Elephants" at the Driever farm near Hitchcock. All the nieces and nephews remember Martha's biscuits and deer sausage, kase noodle and real chicken and noodle soup. We spent many hours playing Cheat Your Neighbor, Progressive Rummy, and Sorry when we were younger. We miss them dearly. You could take a nap on their living room rug during the heat of the day and watch for the mailman approaching as a cloud of dust rose into the air behind his vehicle.
