Obituary Zachariah Kirby
Topeka (Kansas) State Jounal 8 March 1913

His death notice appears in the Belleview Telescope 13 March 1913.

It is with deep regret that we were called upon Thursday to chronicle the death of one of our beloved citizens, Mr. Zackery Kirby. He was born May 6, 1816 and died Thursday; Feb. 27th, 1913, being 97 years, 8 months and 21 days of age. Mr. Kirby was born in Cambridgeshire, England. He was married to Mary Ann Sarington, in England, and their oldest son, John, was born there and brought to America when 2 years of age. Grandpa Kirby emigrated to America when he was 23 years of age with his wife and son and settled in Illinois, living there for several years and to this union was born 12 children, 8 girls and 4 boys: only 7 survive him; John of Sorimore, Iowa; Elizabeth Bishop, Stanton, Iowa; Sarah Ann Rhinehart, Oxforn, Nebr.; Emma Doyel (sic) McCook, Nebr.;Susan Saragnt, Streton, Colo.;Rosetta Stowe, Warwick, Kansas; William Kirby residing with his sister at Red Oak, Nebr.

The deceased moved from Ill. to Minnesota, living there for several years and from there they moved to Iowa where his wife died.

He was then married to Catherine Christy of Red Oak, Iowa. They moved to Republic County, Mar. 23, 1875 and to this union was born 3 sons and 1 daughter; Carl and Edward of Iowa and Samuel of this county and Maude who has been in very poor health for the past ten months and has been an invalid.

Nothing that helping hands could do was spared for his comfort. This closes a life emblematic of a kind and loving husband and a good father.

It seems difficult to reconcile this thought that an old neighbor and citizen should be called away. He leaves his wife, 11 children, 42 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, many neighbors and friends to mourn his loss.
