Vernon Carl Winkel, 79 of Sugar Grove, formerly of Toluca, passed away peacefully and comfortably at 2:25 a.m. Thursday (June 4, 2009) at Provena Mercy Hospital in Aurora, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Streator, Il. to Frederick Carl and Ida Frieda Bendlin Winkel. He married Dorothy Jean Orsen on April 12, 1952, in La Rose, Il. She died Aug. 11, 2003.
He is survived by two sons, Randolph Carl Winkel of Vancouver, Washington and Brian Scott (Jeune Phyllis Weistroffer) Winkel of Sugar Grove; four grandchildren, Teresa Jo Winkel and Heather Whitney Winkel, both of Vancouver, and Joshua Jeffrey and Joseph Carl Winkel, both of Sugar Grove. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Jeffrey Allen Winkel.
He farmed in the La Rose area for many years and worked at Caterpillar Mossville plant until his retirement.
