Earl H. Schulz, 83, of Elk Point, SD died Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at his residence with his family by his side.

Mr. Schulz was born on April 30, 1926 in Elk Point, the son of Walter E. and Doris (Lilly) Schulz. He was raised on the family dairy farm north of Elk Point, and he graduated from Elk Point High School.

He married Sanna C. Haase on June 3, 1948, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elk Point. They farmed and raised purebred registered Holsteins. Mr. & Mrs. Schulz celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1998. Mrs. Schulz died January 15, 1999.

He married Charlotte Ryan on October 27, 2001 at the Augustana Lutheran Church in West St. Paul, MN.

In 2002 the family farm was recognized as a State of South Dakota Century Family Farm. In 2002, the couple moved to Elk Point.

He was an active member of his church serving on the Immanuel Lutheran Church board. He was active in his community including the Elk Point Odd Fellow Lodge #4, camping club, and card club. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Texas. His special joy was spending time with his family, particularly his beloved grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte, a daughter, Devon and her husband Charles Hamner of Grand Island, NE; a son, Brad and his wife, Terry of Omaha, NE; six grandchildren; Nathan Hamner, Kristin Hamner, Jonathan Hamner, Joshua Schulz, Wesley Schulz, and Mackenzie Schulz and their families; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Donald (Doris Jean) Hanson of Elk Point, and Mary Arlene Schulz of Elk Point; one brother, Ray Schulz of Vermillion; five sisters-in-law, and one brother-in-law; the Ryan family, many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and close friends. Special friends include the Russell Hall family who have been close friends for over 60 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Sanna; a sister, Lillie Mae Grisham; and a brother, Glenn Schulz.

Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. , Sunday, June 14, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elk Point, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Funeral Service at 10 a.m. , Monday, June 15, 2009 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elk Point.

Burial will be at Elk Point Cemetery.
