His son, Walter Hadley, wasn't appointed a guardian until 1888. The original headstone does appear to have an 1878 or 1888 death year on it. The original pension files would need to be obtained to see his exact death date and place. His wife was remarried by 1880. It's possible they divorced or he died between 1875 and 1880.
