Irene was born Nov. 20, 1908 in the Town of Amherst (Portage County), a daughter of the late Albert and Gunda Moen Lutz.
On Dec. 12, 1931, she married H. Timm Leverenz at Waukegan, III. She attended Amherst Junction Grade School and graduated from Amherst High School in 1927. Irene attended Central State College In Stevens Point, where she graduated on June 11, 1930 with an Elementary Education Certificate. She taught grade school at the former Meade School east of New Holstein. After her marriage In 1931, she taught in the New Holstein School System as a substitute. On Oct. 1, 1958 she opened "Irene's Shop" a women's apparel and specialty gift shop, which she owned , and operated in New Holstein, until the early 70's.
She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in New Holstein and a charter member and past president of the Liberal Arts Club.
Survivors include one son, Jon (Jan) Leverenz, Glenview, III.; two grandchildren, David Leverenz, Chicago, III. and Susan Stern, Chicago; two great-grandchildren, Michelle Stearn and Sarah Stearn; two brothers, Maynard and Grant Lutz, both of Amherst Junction.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, H, Timm Leverenz; one son, Timm Leverenz and two sisters, Thelma Thomas and Margaret Sutheimer.
Friends may greet the family on Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at St. John United Church of Christ, New Holstein. ,A memorial service will be held at , 1 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, at the church, ' the Rev. James E. Werner officiating. Cremation has taken place. A memorial fund will be established rin her name. The Sippel Funeral Home, New Holstein, is assisting the family.
