Mrs. Walter Mathes, 74, New Holstein, died this morning at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton. A resident of Calumet Homestead at New Holstein for a year, she had been a patient at the hospital for only one day.
She was born Aug. 8, 1893, in the Town of Eaton, Manitowoc County. The former Nora Schwalbe, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Schwalbe, and was married Oct. 1, 1914, to Walter Mathes. He died in 1949. Mrs. Mathes was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, New Holstein, and the Ladies Aid Society.
Surviving are two son, Raphael and Paul, both of New Holstein, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Victor H. Kuerschner, pastor officiating. Burial will be in New Holstein City Cemetery.
