He moved his family from Omaha to Corvallis in 1943. In 1950 the family moved to a small farm in the Oakville area.
He enjoyed raising a garden and some livestock. He also enjoyed working with wood and collecting stamps.
He retired in 1972 after working at the OSU Physical Plant for 20 years. He moved off the farm and into Corvallis in 1993. He had a ready wit with mischievous smile.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
He is survived by sons Thomas Kuehlwein of Waldport, Oregon; John Kuehlwein of Vancouver, Washington and Jerry Kuehlwein of Corvallis, Oregon; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews in America and Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters in Germany and one sister in America.
