Mrs. Mary Viertel, 83, died Friday noon in Racine where she had been residing for the past year. Funeral services are to be held at 9 o’clock Monday morning in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at Altdorf, the Rev. Cletus Abts officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Born in Switzerland May 15, 1870, she came to the United States at the age of 14 and has resided in this area since that time until moving to Racine. She was married to Albert Viertel in Grand Rapids. He preceded her in death.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Edward Locey of Vesper and Mrs. NIck Grellinger of Racine, and three sons, Herman of Berlin, Edward of Dubuque, Ia., and Albert of Omro. There are 27 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Three sons died previously.

Additional survivors include a brother, Anton Wipfli, Vesper, and two sisters, Mrs. Harriet Wirtz, Wisconsin Rapids, and Mrs. Frank Jelinek, Minneapolis. Arrangements are in charge of Krohn and Berard.
