Gerhard Heineman was born on June 3, 1887 in the Province of Olderburg in Germany. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Heineman. At the age of 14 years he came to the U.S. for the first time with friends and lived at Burlington, Iowa. In 1909 he returned to the fatherland but came back to this country again the following year, this time to Hallam to be with his friends, the Potthoff family. With the exception of four years when he worked in Lincoln, he made his home at Hallam, where he worked as a carpenter. In the year 1929 he joined the Congregational Church where he sang in the choir, the men's chorus, and in the male quartet.

He was married to Miss Sophia Rebecca Schnieder of Hallam at Council Bluffs, Iowa on December 30, 1930.

He died suddenly of a heart attack on February 21, 1948 at the age of 60 years, 8 months, and 18 days. His mother preceded him in death in the year 1931. His older brother died in World War I. He is survived by his widow at Hallam, his father who is 84 years old, his younger brother, Fred, and three sisters, Helena, Meta, and Sophia, all of them in Germany. He was a friendly man and had many friends.

Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church at Hallam, the Pastor John D. Gross officiating. A quartet consisting of Laura Luckhardt, Lucille Lanham, Harry Haas, and Alvin Mahlman was accompanied by Bertha Grenseman at the piano. Interment was in the Hallam Cemetery.
