Richard Dean Stewart, 67, died Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson.
Visitation is 5-8 pm today at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon. Services are 2 pm Friday, September 4, 2009, at the funeral home with burial in New Brandon Cemetery.
Richard was a native of Missouri and a longtime resident of the Jackson area. He attended Leavell Woods United Methodist Church in Jackson. Richard retired as a supervisor for Great Western Banking and Finance in Jackson and later worked for seven years in Right-A-Way acquisitions for MDOT.
Family was always very important to Richard, and he also enjoyed visiting and talking with all people. One of his favorite pastimes was automotive racing. His family and friends considered him an "Automotive Racing Enthusiast" because of his tremendous love for the sport.
During his illness, Richard was very recovery driven, always having a tremendous faith he would overcome and persevere through any obstacle in front of him. He has now overcome that obstacle and is with his heavenly Father.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanie Stewart of Brandon; daughter, Cindy Nations (Robin) of Brookhaven; sons, Richie Stewart (Lira) of Jacksonville, FL and Joey Stewart of Germantown, TN; sister, Gloria Morgan of Blytheville, AK; and grandchildren, Rachel Stewart, Caroline Nations, and Grace Nations.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Miss. Division, 1380 Livingston Lane, Jackson, MS 39213.
