Catherine Brungardt, 89, died Wednesday, March 17, 1993 at St. John's of Hays Nursing Home. She was born Aug. 3, 1903 at Kahler, Russia to Andrew and Anna Marie (Prediger) Bellinder.

She married Edward J. Brungardt Aug. 24, 1926 at Gorham. He died Sept. 7, 1968.

She was a homemaker and a former cook at Lincoln Elementary School. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Altar Society and VFW Auxiliary, all of Hays.

Survivors include three sons, Vitus of Blue Springs, Mo., Hubert of McPherson, and Leroy of Independence Mo.; three daughters, Teckla Baker of Hays, Laura Podsednik of Fort Worth, Texas, and Marie Orth of McPherson; a brother, Joe Bellinder of Chatsworth, Calif.; four sisters, Sophie Gottschald of Hays, Angie Coffman of Wamego, Elise Bellinder and Marie Mitchell, both of San Bernardino, Calif.; and 18 grandchildren, 37 great- grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren.

Service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 18th and Milner, with Father Don Zimmerman and Father Carl Kramer officiating; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. An Altar Society rosary will be at 5 p.m. Friday, followed by a VFW Auxiliary service at 6:30 p.m., a Daughters of Isabella rosary at 7 p.m. and a parish vigil at 7:30 p.m., all at Hays Memorial Chapel, 20th and Pine. Visitation is from 2 to 5:30 p.m. and from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to St. John's of Hays Nursing Home.
