Rev. Alfred Lenzner, a retired senior clergyman designated a Patriarch in the Methodist faith, died at home in Lockport on January 15, 1977. The eldest of five children born to industrialist parents in Thuringia, now part of East Germany, he emigrated steerage-class to the United States at the age of 19. His German-socialist mind-set abruptly altered by the religious witness of a gentleman in his barber chair. He entered Baldwin-Wallace College, barbering weekends, and completed his ministerial studies in 1916 cum laude. Pastorates were served first in the German Methodist Conference and later in the English Methodist Conferences in Yonkers, Rochester, Hartford, Conn., Buffalo: East Street, Olcott, Ransomville-Porter Center-Fillmore, and Lockport. At one time he served three charges simultaneously. He retired in 1955 from the Lockport: Clinton Street Methodist Church. Survivors are his wife of 59 years, the former Ruth K. Bademann, two children, Mrs. Marsden T. Sellers and Dr. Alfred R. Lenzner, and four grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Friedl Mohring and a brother, Willy Lenzner, survive in Communist East Germany. The Reverend Dr. Charles Aldrich, District Superintendent of the Genesee Conference of the United Methodist Church, assisted by the Rev. Marsden T. Sellers, son-in-law of Rev. A. Lenzner, officiated at final services in the Prudden-Kandt Funeral Home, Lockport. Interment at the Cold Springs Cemetery, Lockport.
