L. Onema Brown, 82 of Mexico, died at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at Kings Daughters' Home.

Onema was born on Dec. 27, 1925 in Cord, Ark., the daughter of Jess Edgar Gipson, Sr. and Edna Lois Lewallen. On May 26, 1963, she married Cleo Brown in Mexico.

Mrs. Brown was a domestic engineer for most of her life. She was a member of Centennial Baptist Church. She had been president of the Mexico Federated Garden Club, a 4-H leader of the Molino Musketeers, member of the Central Missouri Hemerocallis Society (Day Lilies Association), member of the Rebekah Lodge, Molino Extension Club and the Annie Arnold Circle of Kings Daughters' Home.

Onema was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to play canasta, bridge and pinochle. She loved taking care of day lilies, roses and her gardens.

Survivors include her husband, Cleo Brown of Mexico; children, Brenda Wells and husband,Jim, of Bowling Green, Bill Bare of Kansas City, Gary Bare and wife, Maria, of Columbia, Lisa Bell and husband, Troy, of Shawnee, Kan., and Vicky Seitz and husband, Barry, of Grand Junction, Colo.; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ronnie Gipson.

Onema was preceded in death by one grandson, Robert James Wells and one brother, J.E. Gipson, Jr.
