John Wieland 80, of Hubbard township, died February 5 at St. Joseph's hospital, in Park Rapids.

Mr. Wieland was born Jan 24 1894, in southern Russia to Carl and Rosina Wieland. He was raised and educated in Russia and came to the United States and Streeter, ND in 1910 and where he lived until 1929 when he moved to Tappen, ND. In 1944 he moved to Steele, ND where he owned and operated the Farm Implement business until he retired in 1951 and moved to Hubbard township, rural PArk Rapids where he had lived since. He and Elizabeth Freuer were married Nov 12, 1919 in Jamestown, ND. He was a former mayor of Steele, ND.

Surviving are his widow, three daughters, Mrs. Howard Hasse (Leone) Las Vegas; Mrs. Richard Falk (Lee) Park Rapids; Mrs. James Churchill, (Renata) of Kirkland Washington; four sons, Bernard of Mandan, ND; Leonard of York, ME; Elmer of Park Rapids, Leo of Lawton, OK; four sisters Mrs. Emily Pratt of Moorhead; Mrs. Mary Field of Jamestown, ND; Miss Bertha Wieland of San Francisco; Mrs. Emma Lang of Yodi, CA; six brothers; Emmanuel, Fred Emil and Jacob all of Streeter, ND, Gust Wieland of Fargo, Andrew of Delmont, SD. 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 2 pm Feb 9 at the First English Lutheran Church of Dorset with the Rev. Stephen Bruening officiating. Mrs. Stephen Bruening organist accompanied the Church Adult Choir, "The Strife is O'er" ; and the congregation sang "Just As I Am" and "I Know My Redeemer Lives".

Pallbearers were Ben Johnston, James Branham, Fred Hemmenway, Enno Cirks, James Weaver and Melvin Hooker. Honorary Pallbearers were Harvey Larson, Fred Hellkamp, Elvin Madsen, Walter Wentzel.
Interment was at Greenwood Cemetery with arrangements by Jones Funeral Home of Park Rapids.
