Funeral services for Leopold Florian, 82, retired employee of the Grand Prize Brewery and a veteran of 45 years in the brewery business, will be held at 8:30 AM Thursday in the Earthman Funeral chapel and at 9 AM Thursday at Christ King Catholic Church. Mr Florian died Tuesday in a Houston Hospital. A native of Czechoslovakia, he came to the United States in 1882 and settled in College Station. In 1893 he married the late Mrs. Mary Simon Florian and moved to Houston. He lived at 205 Walton St at the time of his death.
In 1894, Mr Florian began working with the Houston Ice and Brewing Association at the old Magnolia Brewery. He began his association with the Grand Prize Brewery when it opened in Houston. He retired in 1939.
He was a member of Christ the King Chapel, the Woodmen of the World and Brewery Workers Local 11. Survivors include one son, John F. Florian; four daughters Mrs. G.F. McGuckin, Mrs Sam F. Semo, Mrs Jerry Vodehnal and Mrs E.M. Jones; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of Houston. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
