Mrs. Yvonne Michels Bennett, 89 years old, passed away July 13, 2003, at Auburn Nursing Center, Auburn, KY. Her death was the result of complications from a fall on June 15 while visiting her daughter.

Mrs. Bennett was born October 24, 1913, in Beaverdam, Ohio, to Charles A. and Zephirine (LeJeune) Michels. They moved to Maumee where she graduated from St. Joseph's School (1928) and Maumee High School (1932). She attended Bowling Green State University and earned a Bachelor's Degree in education and foreign language in 1936. Mrs. Bennett taught briefly in Maumee before she married Bruce F. Bennett on June 3, 1939.

Yvonne and Bruce moved to Leipsic, Ohio, to begin their family, then returned to Maumee in 1953. She resumed her teaching career and taught at Holland Elementary and Springfield High School for the next 24 years, retiring in 1977.

From 1968 until recently, she resided in South Toledo. During the past four years she resided with her oldest daughter in Perrysburg.
She was a member of, and held offices in several organizations over the years, among them were: Maumee American Legion Auxiliary (her mother was the first President), Maumee Business and Professional Womens Organization, Maumee Mother's Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta, Les Femmes, Lucas County Retired Teachers, and 40 & 8.

Originally a member of St. Joseph Church, Maumee, where she was baptized and married, she was also a member of OLPH for over 20 years and attended St. Rose's in Perrysburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce in 1988, and her brother, Benjamin in 1992.

She is survived by her daughters, Toni (Jim) Artz, Perrysburg, Marti (Don) Zeek, Pemberville, Vonnie (Bill) Tabb, Sharon Grove, KY, and Julie (Jill) Ross of Toledo; her sons, Chuck (Kathy) Bennett, Norfolk, VA, Ben (Pat) Bennett, Wm. Michels Bennett and John S. Bennett, all of Toledo; 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be from 4-9 p.m. Thursday and 2-9 p.m. Friday in Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee, where a scripture service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Friday. Services will begin at 9:15 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home, followed by Mass in St. Joseph Church at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to the American Kidney Foundation or a charity of one's choosing.
