Frank was born in Altenilpe, Westfalen, Germany and migrated to the United States in 1901. His parents were Johan Joseph and Elizabeth (Voss) Knoche. His siblings included Joseph, Maria Theresia, Minnie, John, Anton, Henry, Bertha, Franz, and Frances.
Initially, Frank lived in Detroit, later moving to Five Lakes after his marriage to Mary Ann Lange. He and Mary Ann had six children - Henry, Agnes, Margery, Arthur, Albert and Louis. In 1924, Frank built the Five Lakes store. He also worked as a blacksmith at his shop just a short distance from the store.

Take M-24 to Burnside Road to old State Road. Make a right and go about a quarter of a mile. Go through main gate about halfway to the Clarence & Gertrude Snoblem tombstone row. Grave site is several stones to the left.
