ALTA, Iowa -- Alvina M. Schmidt, 73, of Alta, Iowa, died Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church in Alta, with Pastor Mark Abraham officiating. Burial was in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Alta.

Alvina Marie Glienke was born on Feb. 14, 1932, to Herman and Marie (Hinkeldey) Glienke at home in Buena Vista County, Iowa. She attended Hanover Parochial School and later graduated from Alta High School in 1950.

On June 8, 1952, Alvina was united in marriage to Willard Schmidt at St. John Lutheran Church at Hanover. This union was blessed with four children, Rick, Ryan, Janet and Brenda. Alvina was employed by Alta Co-Op Elevator for a number of years but will be best remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She enjoyed being active, including her service to her church, quilting, crafts, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. Her presence will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her husband, Willard of Alta; two sons, Rick Schmidt of Alta and Ryan Schmidt and his wife, Carrie of Alta; two daughters, Janet and her husband, Tim Black of Sioux City and Brenda and her husband, Dan Anderson of Storm Lake, Iowa; six grandchildren, Stephanie and Cory Black and Kyla, Taylor, Carsen and Cole Anderson; four brothers, Albert and Marilyn Glienke of Aurelia, Iowa, Hermi and Delores Glienke of Florida, Ernie and Bev Glienke of Aurelia and Martin and Jeanne Glienke of Alta; three sisters, Lydia Christensen of Nebraska, Marie and Lyle Lichtenberg of Alta and Dorothy and Dwaine Hinkeldey of Alta; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Glienke of Alta; a brother-in-law, Harold Lussman of Storm Lake; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Emma and Esther; a brother, Henry; and an infant granddaughter, Alyssa.
