Henry William Glienke, son of Herman and Marie(Hinkeldey) Glienke, was born on May 10, 1921, in rural Alta.
He was baptized May 22,1921. He attended parochial school, received an eighth grade education and was confirmed into the Lutheran faith in 1935 at St. John Lutheran Church, Hanover, where he was a lifetime member. He worked as a hired farmhand until he entered the service in June 1944, where he served for two years.
Henry was married to Lorraine Freidrich on February 2,
1947, at St. John Lutheran Church, Hanover. The couple
had seven children: Dean, Larry, Doris, Nancy, Allan, Carol
and Bruce.
Henry farmed south of Alta all his life and remained a
farmer until his death. He was active in his church and firm in his faith. He enjoyed his family, traveling, cards, visiting, and -going to coffee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Emma, sister Esther Lussman, brotherin-law Harold Christensen and an infant grandchild.
He is survived by his wife Lorraine; his children Dean and
Cindy Glienke; Eustis, Fla., Larry and Barb Glienke, Wilmington, N.C.; Doris and Bill Hott, Lake View; Nancy and
Steve Myers, Urbandale; Allan and Dona Glienke, Carol and
Randy Lichtenberg, and Bruce and Traci Glienke, all of Alta; his 19 grandchildren: Tiffany and Jason Guido, Megan Glienke, Kaylan Glienke, Josh and Beverly Glienke, Christopher Glienke, Paul and Angela Hott, Heather and George Morre, Andy Myers and Jackie Myers, Heidi and Kevin Kies, Kirk and Crystal Glienke, Halli Glienke, Heath Glienke, Greta Lichtenberg, Maggie Lichtenberg, Liza Lichtenberg, Allison Glienke, Hillary Glienke and Hanna Glienke; his five great-grandchildren: Sydney and Tyler Hott, Emily and Isaiah Moore, and Brennan Guido.
Henry is also survived by his four brothers and their wives: Albert and Marilyn Glienke, Aurelia; Herman and Dolores Glienke, Miami, Fla; Ernie and Beverly Glienke, Aurelia; Martin and Jeanne Glienke, Alta; brother- in-law Harold Lussman, Storm Lake; his four sisters: Alvina and Williard Schmidt, Alta; Lydia Christensen, Grand Island, Neb.; Marie and Lyle Lichtenberg, Alta; Dorothy and Dwaine Hinkeldey, Alta; and many relatives and friends.
