MUNSTER, IN

Irene Mackowiak (nee Kwiecien), age 80, of Munster, IN, formerly of East Chicago, IN, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2008.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Jerome B.; daughter, Marilyn (John) Walsh of Dyer, IN; sons: Jerome Mackowiak of Ventura, CA and Raymond Mackowiak of Munster, IN; grandchildren: Monica (John) Bosco, Samantha and Shelia Walsh, Andrea Mackowiak and Leslie Marie Mackowiak; great grandsons: Nathan and Daniel Mackowiak; brothers: Frank (Phyllis) Kwiecien of Crown Point, IN and Joseph (Barbara) Kwiecien of Hebron, IN; brother-in-law, Edmund (Geri) Mackowiak of Highland, IN; sister-in-law, Lorraine (Herchel) Stevens of Griffith, IN; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Hattie Kwiecien; two sisters: Mary Ann Magiera and Cecilia Trimbur; parents-in-law: Bart and Minnie Mackowiak; and nephew, Kenneth Magiera.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 9, 2008, 9:30 a.m. at the Lesniak Funeral Home, 4918 Magoun Ave., East Chicago, IN and a 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Stanislaus Church with Msgr. John J. Siekierski officiating. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL. Friends may call at the Lesniak Funeral Home for visitation on Wednesday 3:00-9:00 p.m. Rosary prayer service at 3:00 p.m. Auxiliary service at 5:00 p.m. Irene was born October 29, 1927 in East Chicago, IN to the late Frank and Hattie (Kiersnowski) Kwiecien.
She lived most of her life in East Chicago, moving to Munster in 1999. She worked for many years as a legal secretary for Willard B. Van Horne, Jr. and retired as a Clerk of Lake Superior Court, Room No. 2 of East Chicago. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, the Ladies Rosary Sodality Rose No. 47, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 369 and Polish Women's Alliance Group 132. Irene never met anyone she didn't like. She truly enjoyed passing out Guardian Angel Pins to just about everyone she met. She passed out thousands over the last few years. Mom's presence will be deeply missed and her memory forever cherished by all relatives and friends who were privileged to know and love her.
