Phillip-- original German spelling Philipp-- was born in Sterbfritz, Germany, and came to the U.S. with his first wife Kunigunda, a young son Andreas, and an infant daughter Barbara in 1869. Both Kunigunda and Barbara and another infant daughter Elizabeth (born in 1871) died in Yellow Creek, Stephenson County, IL. There Phillip married Elizabeth Baier and began their family. They moved to Iowa in 1875. Their first two children were born in Illinois and the others in Iowa. Their children were: Anna (1872-1937), Minnie (1874-1927), Charles (1876-1939), William (1879-1952), Martha (1881-1963), Fred (1883-1954), Clara (1885-1962), Emma (1887-1973), and Ed (1889-1978).
