Gustav Herzog was born in Germany in 1837 in Ballenstedt,Anhalt,Behrenburg,Germany. He came to the U.S.A. in 1851 with his parents. He was one of the first to use steam & power machines in making furniture for the early dealers in furniture in Syracuse. He turned out barrel staves and sold them to the early salt manufactures.
He was a member of Liederkranz, he had a rich bartone voice.His wife died in 1892. he was survied by three sons, Rudolph,Fred and Gustav Herzog Jr. and three daughters, Mrs Gustav Kalb and Miss M.V.Herzog of Syracuse & Mrs J.E. Gulden of Rochester,N.Y.
The services were on 22 Apr 1911 and he was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.
