Anna Marie Schafer was born in Frank, Saratov, Volga Russia on February 3, 1874. She was the daughter of Jacob Schafer and Anna Marie Zeiler. It is believed that Anna Marie came to America with her parents and other siblings in either 1891 or possibly the first half of 1892, but prior to the birth of her brother, John, who was born on August 5, 1892 in Sutton, Nebraska. Jacob Wacker and Anna Marie Schafer were married on February 11, 1893 in Hastings, Nebraska. They settled in Hastings for about ten years and in 1904 they moved with their young family to a dry land wheat farm located about 14 miles southwest of Odessa, Washington. Six known children were born to this marriage: Jacob Jr., Henry J., Lydia, Hannah, William, and Reinhold Wacker.
