Helen M. Shafer, 93
MUNCIE - Helen M. Shafer, 93, died Saturday morning, December 2, 2006, at Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born November 30, 1913, in Albany the daughter of Victor and Zella (Hillyer) Cunningham, graduated from Albany High School in 1931 and moved to Muncie in 1934 where she married Chester A. Shafer.
Helen was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend.
Mrs. Shafer was self employed as a seamstress and dressmaker, also employed at Modern Cleaners for 24 years prior to her retirement.
Surviving are two daughters, Janis Arvin (husband-James), Sarasota, FL and Joyce Parton, Muncie; her son, Jack R. Shafer, Muncie; three sisters, Janet Smith, (husband-Ronald), Kokomo, Annett Brankle, Kokomo, and Wanda Wilson, Muncie; eight grandchildren, Jeff and Mark Shafer, Huntington, IN, Dawn Stroud, Kevin Shafer and Michelle Butterfield, Muncie, Kristy Powell, Indianapolis, Kendra Edlinger and Kellie Celeste, Sarasota, Florida; 19 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chester A. Shafer; and granddaughter, Kimberly McKnight.
Services will be held in The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel, at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 4, 2006.
Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery.
