Marie Katharina (Wick) Mathiesen, daughter of John and Marie Wick was born July 19, 1888 in Russia. She was given to God as his child while still an infant. On October 5, 1903, she united in Confirmation with her Lord in the Reform church (sic) in Wolikaja, Russia. Her childhood days were spent abroad where she grew to young womanhood.

On Feb. 11, 1910 she was united in marriage to Johann Peter Mathiesen. Shortly after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Mathiesen came to make their home in America by way of New York on Dec. 24, 1912. After a brief visit with his brother in Lincoln, they came to Chester, Nebr., to establish their new home together. During their 43 years in Chester, the good Lord blessed their home with 10 children. With the Lord by her side their family has grown and each gone their way guided by her loving care.

She was a friendly and generous person always thinking of others before herself. She was a great lover of nature especially birds and flowers.

One great satisfaction that helped her smile, was that, with 6 sons in the service of our country, the good Lord brought them all home.

She loved her many friends and always was telling who had called on her.

She was a patient sufferer, never complaining, and appreciating everything done for herself and her family. She was called to rest Nov. 19, 1955, at 2:30 A.M., at the age of 67 years, and four months. She was preceeded in death by one son, Robert Lee, one sister and one brother.

She leaves to mourn her departure her loving husband; 6 sons, Ted of Hebron; George of Harvard; Julius of Rockaway, Ore.; Lloyd of Troutdale, Ore.; Paul and Dean of McMinnville, Oregon; three daughters: Ms. Mollie Benson of Chester; Mrs. Clara Mae King of Roseburg, Ore.; and Mrs. Lorene Lukas of Gresham, Ore.; sixteen grandchildren, one great grandchild, besides a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Chester, Wed., Nov. 23, at 2 o'clock with Rev. W.W. DeBolt officiating. Mrs. Melvin Crouse and Mrs. Howard Reed sang "Nearer My God To Thee" and "Safe In The Arms of Jesus", with Mrs. Robert Weary as accompanist.

Those acting as pallbearers were Barclay Gallion, Ivan Navis, Lloyd Alderson, Hubert Spohn, Fred Duey, and Oren Norman.

She was laid to rest in the Chester Cemetery. May she rest in peace.
