Theodore (Ted) Mathiesen was born March 21, 1914, at Chester, Nebraska, th (sic) son of Johann (Pete) Mathiesen and Katherine Wick Mathiesen. He attended schools at Chester, Nebraska. He enlisted in the United States Army on November 6, 1941, and served in the Pacific Theatre. He was discharged on November 2, 1945.

On February 18, 1942, at Hebron, Nebraska, he was united in marriage with Eveline Fintel. Five children were born to them: Robert Mathiesen, Hebron, Nebraska; Lois, Mrs. Steve James, Toulon, Illinois; Floyd Mathiesen, Fairbury, Nebraska; Roger Mathiesen, Kearney, Nebraska; and Larry Mathiesen, Belvidere, Nebraska.

Following his discharge from the U.S. Army, the Mathiesens lived in Hebron where he worked as an automobile mechanic, except for approximately three years when they lived in Portland, Oregon.

He became ill eight months ago, and entered Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln on November 22. His death came on December 1, 1982, at the age of sixty-eight years, eight months, and ten days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by two brothers, Robert Mathiesen and Lloyd Mathiesen and by one sister, Lorene Lukas.

He is survived by his wife, Eveline; by his five children, Robert, Lois, Floyd, Roger and Larry; by seven grandchildren, Michelle James, Micheal James, Melissa James, Mark James, Eric Mathiesen, Vagas Mathiesen and Ketherine Mathiesen and by one great-grandson, Jeffrey Allen Dahle, Jr. He is also survived by two sisters, Millie, Mrs. Ray Minnie, Salem, Oregon and Clara Mae, Mrs. Joe Lukas, Portland, Oregon; and by four brothers, George Mathiesen, Weableau, Missouri; Julius David Mathiesen, Lafayette, Oregon; Paul Mathiesen, Redmond, Oregon; and Walter Dean Mathiesen, Portland, Oregon.

He was a retired member of the Chester Volunteer Fire Department; a life time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hebron Post No. 5328, and he had been a member of Hebron American Legion Post No. 180.

Funeral services were at Grace Lutheran Church, Hebron, Nebraska, on Saturday December 4, with Rev. Douglas Allen officiating. Janet Fangmeier was the organist and Tim Norder was the soloist, singing "The Lord's Prayer." Honorary pall bearers were Earl Mount, Oscar Lubben, Walter White and Don Dragoo. The pall bearers were Bob McNitt, Ray Bauer, Bud Zuehlsdorf, Gene Ells, Bob Molthan and Gerald Sterba. The interment and military rites were at the Chester Cemetery, Chester, Nebraska. Adams-Tibbetts Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
