Anton Heim was born at Carroll County, Iowa to Franz and Elisabeth Ziegenfuss Heim. He was the youngest of 10 children. His father, Franz, was born in Pennsylvania to German immigrants in 1841. Elisabeth, the daughter of Johann and Elenora Sander Ziegenfuss, was born at Silberhausen, in Central Germany. Franz and Elizabeth were married in 1866 at Hazel Green, Wisconsin. Anton grew up in Carrol County, with a large extended family. In 1910, he and his closest brother, Nick, left home for the plains of South Dakota, claimed homesteads in Faulk County. Shortly thereafter, Nick and Anton were joined by there parents. Franz died at Faulkton in December of 1911.

On June 9th 1914, Anton married Margaret Lenhoff at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Faulkton. She was the eldest daughter of Peter and Mary Unkrur Lenhoff. Clarence Lenhoff, Margret's brother, and Mary Heim, Anton's oldest niece, stood up at the marriage ceremony. Following her son's marriage, Elisabeth Heim returned to the more settled Carroll County in Iowa, where most of her family resided. Anton and Margaret farmed near the town of Faulkton and became the parents of nine children.

Mrs. Heim died in childbirth in 1930. This left Anton to raise nine young children during the Great Depression. Both his mother and mother-in-law predeceased Margaret, and the couple's sisters were all busy with their own families, so Anton was very much on his own. In spite of farming during the Dust Bowl years, Anton was successful and kept his family together. He retired from farming in 1946, and both to Ashton, SD. Each year, he hosted all of his children and grandchildren at Ashton in celebration of his birthday and the 4th of July Holiday. Mr. Heim died at Ashton on Oct 10, 1963.

Anton was a member of St. Bearnard's Church at Redfield, and St. Thomas' Church in Faulkton. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council at Redfield. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren, particularly seeing everyone each July.

Lawrence married Elizabeth Mack, the daughter of Charles and Anna Mack. They had two sons, Larry and Richard. They lived in Watertown, SD. Lawrence also lived at Minot, North Dakota for a short time before his death.

Margaret married Jimmie Taylor, and later married Murray Lauritzen. Margaret had four sons and three daughters. Her family moved to Utah in 1964, and Marge lived in Colorado later in life.

Ignatius married Myrn Sparling, the daughter of Charles and Anna Lapke Sparling. Naish and Myrn raised buffalo near Rockham, SD and had two daughters and four sons.

Vernon married Agnes Lavery, the daughter of James and Mary Mack Lavery. They had six sons and five daughters, farming at the Goodwin-Kranzburg area in South Dakota.

Rita married Gaylon Armstrong. They had 11 children and farmed near Ashton. In retirement, they moved to Aberdeen, SD.

Elizabeth married Robert McDermaid. They lived near Huron, SD and had ten children- two died in childhood.

Donna married Wendlin Baumgartner. They lived at Rapid City, SD and had 17 children.

Marcella married Bruce Keller, the son of James and Anna Larson Keller. They farmed near Ashton, and Sally served as the community Postmistress for several years. Sally and Bruce had 6 children.

Joseph married Lois Groos, the daughter of John and Martha Reith Groos. They had three children and farmed near Colman, SD. Lois passed away in 1975, and later in life, Joseph married Geri Ruddy Benning.
