Born in Herxheim, Bavaria; baptized in Catholic rite Jan. 27, 1808. Son of Sebastian and Clara [Stark] Speth. Married Catharine Eva Lechner in Herxheim April 26, 1832. They came to America sometime between that date and the birth of their first child in Ohio, July, 1833. Resided in Cincinnati, then moved to Jamestown (later called Dayton), Ky., some time in the 1850s. Worked the rest of his life as a rope-maker. Father of known children Francis [orig. Friedrich], Christina [Wilhelm], Michael, Mary, and Caroline [Kirschner].
