Professor Erich H. Sievert, 81, of 312 S. Garden St . , New Ulm, died Tuesday, February 1,1994, at Highland Manor Nursing Home, New Ulm.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church , New Ulm, with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery .
Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. Friday and will continue 7:30-11 a.m. Saturday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, New Ulm, and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Adelia of New Ulm, daughters & sons-in-law, Kathy and Tom West of Minneapolis , Lois and Glenn Bode of Watertown , Wis. ; son and daughter-in-law, Louis and Sharie Sievert of Sioux City, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; sisters, Ada Sievert, Hertha Sievert and Alma Schwenzen, all of Watertown, Wis.
He was preceded in death by son, the Rev. Clark Sievert; brothers Karl, Rudolph and Richard Sievert; and sisters, Esther Sievert, Leoneta Sievert and Gertrude Sievert.
He was born August 8, 1912 in Pigeon, Michigan to Louis C. and Emily (Gronke) Sievert. He attended St. Peter's Christian Day School in Weyaurwega , Wis. , and Trinity Lutheran School of Marinette, Wis. He is a graduate of Dr. Martin Luther High School, New Ulm. He received his B.S, degree in education from Dr. Martin Luther College, and a Master of Arts Degree from the University of Minnesota . He married Adelia Schumacher on August 8, 1939, in Mound Prairie Township , Houston County . He began his teaching career at St. John's Lutheran School in Neillsville , Wis. , in 1932. He then became principal of First Lutheran School in LaCrosse, Wis. In 1948 he began teaching at Dr. Martin Luther High School and Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm. At DMLC, he served as Dean of Summer School and was the Chairman of the Education Department. He was one of several people who were instrumental in establishing the Children's Literature Room in the library at DMLC. He retired on June 30, 1987, after completing 55 years as a Lutheran educator. He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church , New Ulm, and was a resident of Highland Manor since December 1989.
