Great-grandson of John George Heidt, I, Salzburger who came to Georgia in 1749.

Served in Confederate Army, enlisted Oct. 7, 1861, Private. Fought and died in the Civil War, Company E, 6th Regiment, VA Calvary. Shot and severely wounded in the left leg in the “Bog Wallow Ambuscade” skirmish at Burke's Station, Fairfax County, VA, Dec. 4, 1861. Died as result of wounds on Dec. 24, 1861 at Charlottesville, VA.
