Evelyn lived in Scotland County, MO most of her life where she attended Crow School. She was a member of the Navy Mother's Association, the Scotland County Senior Citizens Center and the First Christian Church, Memphis, MO. Her hobbies included gardening, embroidering, quilting, and reading.
Evelyn was united in marriage to Ralph Carlton Young on December 23, 1939 in Queen City, MO. Born to this union were eight children.
Preceding her in death were her husband on March 26, 1992; a son, Roger, on November 23, 1958; her parents; a sister, Marguerite Triplett and brother, Kenneth Riddington; and a nephew, Lynn Triplett.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Marilyn Hoops of St. Peters, MO, Ronnie and Bonnie Young of Memphis, MO, Keith and Kay Young of Cedar Rapids, IA, Kathy Young of Dallas, TX, Karen and John Fulks of Ozark, MO, David and Rhonda Young of Kirksville, MO, and Mike and Kim Young of Olathe, KS.
Also surviving are grand-children, Diana Hoops, Rich and Traci Hoops, Rob Young, Kurt and Carol Young, Debbie and Jarrod Blessing, Thomas Fulks, Travis Fulks, Lacy, Randi and Joseph Young, Hannah and Nicole Young and step-grandchildren, Jenna and Marcus Shalley; Great-grandchildren include Erica and Elizabeth Watson, Lexie, Payton, McCall and Remi Hoops, Meghann, Tyler and Brenna Young, Jacob and Aaron Blessing and Paige Young.
Evelyn is also survived by her sister, Thelma Strong of Memphis, MO and Edythe Watson of Canton, IL; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Young of Lee's Summit, MO; and two brothers-in-law, Bill and Nadine Young of Coon Rapids, IA, and Bob and Nona Young of Lee's Summit, MO. Nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends also survive.
The family suggests memorials to the First Christian Church or the Scotland County Library, both in Memphis, MO.
Services were held June 25, 2001 at the First Christian Church, Memphis, MO. Reverend Larry Smith officiated. Angela Westhoff sang, accompanied by Ann Luther. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Rich Hoops, Rob Young, Kurt Young, Jarrod Blessing, Thomas Fulks and Travis Fulks. Honorary pallbearers were Ivan Lee Ruth, Glen Lister, Dean Davis, Stanley Strong, Joseph Young and Lonnie Dee Triplett. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, MO. Arrangements were handled by the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO.
