Married August Siemen of Woodbine, IL on Sep 16, 1917 in her home town of Apple River, IL.

After their marriage they lived on the Siemen Farm in Woodbine with his parents, William Sr. and Catherine Bergman Siemen, and his two unmarried siblings, Herman "Shaum" Siemen and Mathilda "Tillie" Siemen. The farm had two houses, a Big House and a Small House. August built the Big House for his new bride and their new family, Lorraine Siemen (1919-2006...see Memorial #13631917) and Roland Siemen (born 1922). His parents and his siblings lived in the original Small House.

After Grandma Siemen died in 1933, Shaum and Tillie remained in the Small House, but the house also housed the hired help on the farm. Berniece and Tillie were often asked to help with the farm helpers' children and often cared for them when they were sick.
