A Republican, Mr. Diamond was elected mayor in 1971, after having been appointed as a trustee of the Wurtsboro Village Board the summer before. He remained mayor until 1975.
He was also a charter member, past president, and past chief of the Wurtsboro Fire Department and a past president and treasurer of the Sullivan County Volunteer Firemen's Association.
The son of the late Solomon and Rose Diamond, he was born Jan. 17, 1913, in Wurtsboro.
A World War II Army veteran, Mr. Diamond was president and past finance secretary of the Wurtsboro Hebrew Congregation and past commander and life member of Mamakating Post 1266, American Legion.
He was also a past master of Fallsburg Lodge No. 1122, Free and Accepted Masons; a past district deputy of the Sullivan Masonic District; and past patron of the Fallsburg Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Weisberg Diamond at home; two daughters, Arlene Borko of Wurtsboro and Deanna Mendels of Monticello; two brothers, Paul Diamond of Wurtsboro and Jack Diamond of California; one sister, Esther Levine of Wurtsboro; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Jewish Community Center, Wurtsboro. Rabbi Solomon Zeides will officiate.
Burial will be in Wurtsboro Hebrew Cemetery, Wurtsboro.
