Raymond Roscoe Stevens was born on September 17, 1900 to Roscoe and Louisa (Andrews) Stevens at Middlebranch, Nebraska and departed this life on November 18, 1975 at the age of 75 years, 2 months, and 1 day.
He grew up at Middlebranch and attended O'Neill High School, Grand Island Baptist College and Wayne State College.
He was raised in the Baptist Church and later joined the United Brethren Church in Orchard and was a member of the United Methodist Church at the time of his death.
On March 30, 1932, he was united in marriage to Tillie Rhoades. To this union were born three daughters. They also raised a foster son.
He farmed near Orchard for several years and then became postmaster in Orchard in 1947. He served as postmaster until he retired in 1970. He was very active in the Nebraska League of Postmasters and held several state offices for the league. He was presented the "Postmaster of the Year" award in 1963 by them.
Raymond was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Nebraska York-Rite of Freemasonry, The Oddfellows Lodge, the Rebekah Lodge, and the Lion's Club.
Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Tillie; his children, Dixie Willats and Patty Snyder of Orchard, Sonia Holbrook of Central City, and Johnnie Phifer of Omaha; two brothers, Alva of Loomis, Calif. and Clarence of Lincoln; 13 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, 4 brothers and a grandson, Billy Willats.
Raymond was a devoted and loving husband and father.
