On April 17, 2009, Beatrice Gerhardt, 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Kenneth Phillips celebrating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Monday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Christian Mothers Rosary at 4 p.m. followed by a parish vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Beatrice was born Aug. 20, 1915, on the family homestead at Fallon, northeast of Flasher. She was the daughter of Stephen and Florentina (Dauenhauer) Berger. She attended school in Fallon and loved to play the organ for church services. She also went with her mother who was a mid-wife and would help with the deliveries.

She married Valentine Gerhardt in 1939 at St. Peter and Paul Church in Fallon. They lived in Solen, Fort Rice and later moved to the Flasher area. In 1980, they moved to Mandan. They shared 53 years of marriage.

Beatrice had a gift of hospitality, for all her overnight guests and for all the wonderful meals she prepared for friends, relatives and hired hands. Her life was centered around her children and grandchildren. Her children have many memories of celebrating Valentine's Day, holidays and anniversaries. She was a woman with many talents; she could be an electrician, carpenter and a seamstress and create her own patterns. After retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling and visiting their children. She had a love for old-time music and would listen to happy hour on Sunday afternoons. She enjoyed her garden and watching things grow gave her such joy.

She is survived by her six sons, Jim (Vicky), Raleigh, Bill (Ellen), Leonard (Delores) and Larry (Gloria), all of Flasher, Ken (Alice), Mandan, and Bob (Loretta), Mulvane, Kan.; two daughters, Rosie (Gene) Erhardt and Dee (Harvey) Miller, both of Mandan; one son-in-law, Jim Mumey, Centennial, Colo.; her grandchildren, Chuck, Bridget and Chad Mumey, Cindy, Bruce, Stephanie, Kelly, Laurie, Kirk, Bryan, Becky, Sherry, Russell, Nathan, Justin, Tyler, Sheldon, Shannon, Ross, Lance, Jason, Steven, Kyla, Aaron, Nicole, Stacey, Rob, Chris and Matt Gerhardt, Darrell, Molissa and Brent Erhardt and Lisa, Kyren and Dana Miller; 46 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Pauline Fleck.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Valentine, deceased in 1992; her daughter, Gladys, deceased in 2005; her parents, Stephen and Florentina; three sisters, Agatha Reis, Rose Wetzstein and Monica Fleck; three brothers, John, Ralph and Lucas Berger; and her in-laws, Mathias and Kathrine Gerhardt, Jake and Elizabeth Gerhardt, Bill and Elizabeth Gerhardt, Melena and Adolph Ressler, Rose and Tony Veitenheimer, Agatha and Sebastian Frank and Betty and Tony Kautzman.
