Burned to death while raking and burning leaves.(Dressed in the long skirts of the day, her dress caught on fire). Her neighbor, Mr. Alex Applewhite, saw her and ran to help her but the gate in the fence was locked and he had to climb the fence. She lived only about two blocks from the train depot, she was taken there and put on the next train to New Orleans. She died in New Orleans.
