Allegra Fisher was the third of five daughters born to Elizabeth Rein Keil and Emanuel Keil. She was reared on the family farm near Galatia, Kansas. Both of her parents were members of the German families who immigrated to the U.S. after living for several generations in Russia, otherwise known as the Volga-Germans. After graduating from high school, Allegra took courses at Ft. Hays Teachers College and became a teacher in a one-room school located within walking distance of her parent's farm. When WWII began, she moved to Washington D.C. and was a civil employee. While in Washington D.C., she met Woodrow W. Fisher and they married in 1943. When the war ended, they moved to Kansas where they lived and reared their three children. Allegra was a devoted, loving wife and mother who gave unselfishly of herself and her time.
