Matthias Rucker served with Co. F, of the 116th O. V. I. during the Civil War. The 116th was one of several historic and legendary units that saw extensive combat action during the 'War between the States.' A marker at his grave monument commemorates his service. He was the son of Summit Twp. pioneer, Ephraim and Margaret Rucker, buried in nearby Hamilton Cemetery.
