Esther was 99 when she passed away peacefully on Tuesday at Continental Manor in Randolph. Born to William & Emma (Brokopp) Strehmel. She lived almost 100 years in Columbus. She was united in marriage to Herman "Hemmy" Bergauer on May 15, 1938. Together with her husband they ran a dairy farm for 18 years. In January 1964 she became employed at Columbus Community Hospital and retired in 1981.
Esther was a faithful volunteer at Zion Lutheran Ladies Aid, Bethesda Lutheran Home and Columbus Care Center.
Esther loved music, played piano, enjoyed country drives and traveling, and loved to go dancing.
She leaves behind her son and his wife, and nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Lucille Grueneberg; and brother, William Strehmel.
Funeral services were held on Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials preferred to Continental Manor of Randolph.
