Mrs. Peter Schmahl Sr., 78, of Gravesville, died Wednesday at her home following a long illness.

Born Oct. 16, 1885, in Stepnoia, Russia, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Frank. Her marriage to Peter Schmahl occurred Feb. 20, 1907 in Russia. They came to the United States a year later and settled in the town of Charlestown.

She was a member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Chilton and the church’s Ladies Aid society.

Survivors besides her husband are five sons, Peter Jr., Henry and Richard of Chilton, George of Cocoa, Fla., and William of Charlotte, N. C.; four daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Kay) Baumann and Mrs. Richard (Ann) Kemerling, both of Elgin, Ill., Mrs. Earl (Emma) Helmke of Grinnell, Iowa, and Mrs. Robert (Louise) Kleinschmidt of Saginaw, Mich.; 25 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one son and two daughters.

Funeral services were held Monday at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Chilton. The Rev. E. G. Greve, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in the town of Rantoul officiated and burial was in Union Cemetery at Gravesville.
