George was born on August 13, 1915, in rural Clutier, Iowa, the son of Frank and Anna (Pokorny) Hayek.
On November 27, 1939, he married Dorothy Nachazel at the Holy Trinity Church in rural Toledo. They had eight children together. She passed away June 10, 1975. On December 28, 1977, he married Dorothy Hadacek Haack at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clutier.
George was a life long farmer in the Clutier area. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama; Catholic Order of Foresters, and KD Lodge where he was a longtime secretary. George was an Iowa Master Pork Producer in 1952. He was formerly on the Elberon City Council and was a founding member of the Clutier Rural Fire Service.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife, Dorothy; three brothers; five sisters; and a son-in-law, Russell Hamer.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Elberon; eight children, Ron (Sue) Hayek of Reinbeck, George Jr. (Sandy) Hayek of Clutier, Marge (Bill) Wolf of Rapid City, SD, Collette (Richard) Wiebbecke of Clutier, Mary Lou (Gary) Gorsh of Davenport, John (Betty) Hayek of Clutier, Rita (Steve) Amico of Las Vegas, NV, Kathy (Jay) Goulden of Cedar Falls; four step-children, Marc (Barbara) Haack of Iowa City, Bob (Alysa) Haack of Lincoln, NE, John (Chris) Haack of Roswell, GA, and Mary (Ron) Tiedemann of Blairstown; twenty-nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Msgr, Stan Hayek of Charles City, and Bernie (Rosie) Hayek of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Sr. Michelle Hayek of Wahoo, NE; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
