Ethel was the daughter of Theodore Lerch & Anna Hess. She married Robert Rohlfing (son of Albert Rohlfing & Emma Rippelmeyer) 22 December 1946 at St. John's Church, Maeystown, Monroe Co., IL. They had a son Robert.

Ethel was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Valmeyer, Illinois, the Valmeyer American Legion Auxiliary in Valmeyer, Retired Teacher's Association, Red Bud Women's Club, Red Bud Regional Hospital Auxiliary, and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Rohlfing Sr.; her parents, Theodore and Anna K. (Hess) Lerch, Sr.; three brothers, Carlyle J. Sr., Arlyn H. "Stumpy" and Robert E. Lerch; her father and mother-in-law, Albert and Emma (Rippelmeyer) Rohlfing, and sister-in-law, Delores (Robert) Lerch.
