15 Nov 1882: On Thursday of last week Michael Bretz, living near Kimmerling's Church received a stroke of apoplexy while on his way home in the evening, and died on the road, half a mile from his residence. He was observed to fall by Mrs. Moses Steckbeck and her sister, Mrs. Zimmerman, who calling some cornhuskers in a neighboring field, ran to his side and wiped the earth from his face. He died in a few minutes while Mr. Aaron Steckbeck was supporting his head. Dr. E, Grumbine, who was called to the house, gave It as his opinion that death was caused by hemorrhagic apoplexy. Mr Bretz was in his 77th year and worked a full day at making posts on the day of his death. Interment took place on Monday at Kimmerling's church. [Lebanon Daily News]
