Frances A. Stallbaumer, 92, of Seneca, KS, died late Friday night, April 9, 2010, at Life Care Center in Seneca.
She was born September 5, 1917 on a farm near St. Leo, MN, the daughter of Barney and Mary Rolfes Peppersack. When she was 1-1/2 years old, the family moved to Le Mars, IA, and then in 1929 to a farm southwest of Baileyville, KS, where she grew up and attended Sacred Heart School. In 1933 she moved with her family to the St. Bridget community northwest of Axtell.
On October 15, 1935, she married George Koch at St. Bridget Church. They lived and farmed southwest of Baileyville and several other farms in the Baileyville area. In 1961 they moved to a farm west of St. Benedict. Her husband, George, died suddenly on October 4, 1963. Frances worked at the hot lunch program at St. Mary's School for four years.
On August 7, 1965, she married Raymond J. Stallbaumer at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. They lived in Seneca where Frances was employed at the Lauer Funeral Home before she becoming a cook at Sts. Peter & Paul School for 18 years. She retired in 1987. Raymond died June 29, 2008.
She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church and St. Ann's Altar Society, the Quilting Group, a member and past president of the LCBA, past president of the Earle W. Taylor Post #21 of the American Legion Auxiliary, past president of the Sunflower Unit of the HDU, and a past treasurer of the Seneca Woman's Club. She was an expert quilter and made many quilts for her family and friends. She took special interest in all her grandchildren and enjoyed flowers as well as canning from a large garden.
Survivors are a son, Gary Koch of Jacksonville, FL; a daughter, Margaret "Peggy" Parrish of Mount Washington, KY; a son-in-law John Rethman of Seneca, step-daughter, Barbara Strathman of Goff; a sister, Cecelia Tanking of Wetmore; five grandchildren; thirteen step-grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and 28 step-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husbands George Koch and Raymond Stallbaumer, she was preceded in death by a son Cecil Koch on February 1, 1997; a daughter, Carolyn Rethman on April 5, 1998; two brothers, Frank and Henry "Hank" Peppersack; and two sisters, Rosa Linda Latus and Philomina Fangman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 AM Monday, April 12, at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Seneca. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, St. Benedict.
