The centenarian celebrated her birthday with a noon family dinner at her home at 1341 Kansas Ave. S.E. where she lives with her daughter Anna Kamenz. Relatives and friends called during the afternoon.
A native of Wisconsin, Mrs. Kamenz, the former Augusta Hein was born March 6, 1876, to Mr. & Mrs. Frederick Hein at Watertown, WI.
At the age of seven she came to South Dakota with her parents. She married Martin Kamenz in 1899 and they owned and farmed land near Esmond until 1920 when they retired and moved to Huron. The Kamenz family lived at Eighteenth and Kansas Ave. S.E. for 30 years where they raised a vegetable garden and corn.
In 1951 Mr. and Mrs. Kamenz and their daughter Anna moved to their current address. Mr. Kamenz died in 1964.
Mrs. Kamenz has six children, Walter and Anna Kamenz of Huron; Mrs. Edna Thomsen, Mrs John (Gerta) Thomsen, both of Lead, SD, Mrs. Verna Lemnah, Falls Church, VA, and Mrs. Robert (Elsie) Inrig, Oil City, PA. There are 14 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
