SCHNEIDER/LIMEKILN
Oley Township: Approximately 150
yards north of Oley turnpike at Limekiln, in field behind farmhouse (old Snyder homestead, Susannah Cox farm) north of P.O.S. of A. building. Size: 75' x 125'
History: Large plot, surrounded by high stone wall, recently repaired and capped. Probably small public burying ground at "Snyderville" (original name for Lirnekiln). Contains oldest
tombstone in Oley Township and one of the oldest in Berks County, Johannes Schneider 1687-1743. Before 1995 a pile of tombstones were stacked in the corner. Gravemarkers and inscriptions: 67 inscribed stones

Observations: Indicate a few unmarked graves, particularly in the very west row have stones but no burials to go with the stone at the location. Cattle were allowed inside the graveyard and knocked over many of the stones. The stones were reset by inscription before the BCAGP learned how to use divining rods to detect unmarked graves. All masonry repairs will be made before the turn of the century. The project is being financed by a descendant who also intends to set up a trust to finance perpetual care and maintenance for this historic site.
