Obituary.
Mrs. Eva Hanf Hass was born in Essen, Germany, Feb. 13, 1865. She died at Tipton, Sept. 14, 1923, at 7:30 p.m., aged 58 years, 7 months and 1 day. Her death came after an illness of three weeks which she bore with exemplary patience and resignation.
Mrs. Hass was baptized while a small child, in Germany. She came to America at the age of sixteen and lived in Cedar county ever since. At the age of twenty-four she was united in marriage to Carl Has. To this union were born seven children: Almanda, who died at the age of twelve; Herman and Edward Hass and Mrs. Mina Kroeger, of Tipton; William and Charles Hass and Mrs. Viola Schroeder, of Mechanicsville.
She spent twenty-three years of her married life on the farm near Tipton. The remaining eleven years she lived in Tipton. After moving to Tipton she united with the Reformed church, of which she was a faithful member until her death.
There are left to mourn the loss of a loving mother and friend, her aged husband, her six children, and nine grandchildren, also two brothers and two sisters in Germany, and s host of other relatives and friends.
"It seemeth such a little way to me across to that strange country, the beyond; and yet not strange, for it has grown to be the home of those of whom I am most fond. They make it seem familiar and most dear, as journeying friends bring distant countries near. And so to me there is no sting in death; and so the grave has lost its victory. It is but crossing with abated breath, and white set face a little strip of sea, to find our loved ones waiting on the shore, more beautiful, more precious than before."
Services were held Sept. 17th, at 2 p.m., at the home, Rev. M. Grether in charge.
Card of Thanks.
We wish to extend our sincere thanks to all who so thoughtfully remembered us during our beavement.
