'Mary Carlton Allison is the daughter of Thomas Carlton (May 3, 1756-spring 1845), born in Virginal and died near Boomer, Wilkes County, NC and buried in the Family cemetery on the Carlton Farm. Her mother is Mary Land who died before 1799. Mary is the daughter of Thomas Land and Anna Sumter Land. Anna Sumter is the sister to General Thomas Sumter, know as the Gamecock of South Carolina for his service in the Rev. War and the fort in Charleston is named for General Sumter. Thomas Carlton's parents are John Carlton and Elizabeth Wallace Carlton of Albemarle and Orange County Virginia.
